Substance Abuse Counselors – Unpaid Overtime Wages
Kessler Matura P.C. settled on behalf of former New York employees of a substance abuse non-profit. This lawsuit sought to recover unpaid wages, along with liquidated damages, owed to those employed as Substance Abuse Counselors, CASAC and CASAC-T Counselors, Peer Advocates, and similar positions (together “Counselors”) who worked over 40 hours a week.
Our complaint alleged that the non-profit denied overtime pay to Counselors by unlawfully paying them a set salary, regardless of the number of hours they worked. Counselors worked at various locations throughout New York City. Counselors worked beyond their standard schedule without overtime pay – regularly working from home, coming in early, working through lunch, and staying after the end of their shifts.
